Mr. Mayor John Lindsay,

I really was disturbed when I got the information that one of our greatest performers of contemporary music: Mrs. Charlotte Moorman, was apprehended during a concert in New York, and that she risks now to be imprisoned for half a year or more.

I feel obliged to assert that this must be a fault. Mrs. Charlotte Moorman undertook concerts all over Europe and here she also has performed compositions without clothes. I must tell you too that her performances without clothes never have been regarded as exhibitionism, there are always ironical ideas in her naked-performances.

I think U S A has to accept that Mrs. Charlotte Moorman. has done a lot for the young american composers. A great part of good american music is only known in Europe by her, and it is my hope that the Court of Justice will regard this affair from this point of view.
